Pope Super Strong at Wake County Until a Cooling Malfunction
BDI #51 Turns Second-Fastest Lap of the Race While Running Second

Michael Pope and his BDI Racing team is on the right track and on the verge of breaking through to victory lane. Pope's Buffalo Wild Wings #51 Chevrolet was running second Friday night during the Pro All Stars Series South race at Wake County Speedway in Raleigh, NC until the car overheated due to a malfunctioning fan.

“We are really pumped up after this one,” said Pope, who was once again raising money for the Rally Against Cancer and The Jimmy Fund on Friday night. “We had an awesome car during the race; that is the best our red Chevy has driven.  It was really, really good. I was running about 80-percent when I was behind the leader, then the motor started overheating.  The water and oil gauges pegged out and the motor started hissing, so we brought it in since we didn't want to totally blow the motor.

“Now I just can't wait till the next race. Jason (Ricker), Shane (Tesch), Dustin (Archer) and the guys have really done their homework and we have our stuff good now. We've had a little bit of bad luck; the positive thing is how well we ran. We will get them at the next race.”

The fan malfunction caused the car to overheat and disappoint the guys, but it also proved how

well certain ingredients that the team utilizes actually performed.

“I am a big fan of Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil,” said crew chief Jason Ricker. “I drained the oil and gave things a once-over and everything appears to be okay. Of course, we will send it back to our engine builder to freshen things up after something like that, but the oil probably saved the motor cause it melted the breathers on it and pegged the gauges.”

“Those Chevy engines hold up pretty well too,” said team owner Bob Dillner. “Michael and the team are performing so well right now; he has adapted nicely and now we are knocking on the door.”

PASS performance charts had Pope's #51 turning the second-fastest time of the race. The team started the race in the fourth spot and retired from the event just short of 50-laps into the 150-lap race at the quarter-mile track just outside of North Carolina's capital.
