BDI Racing Takes Media Pit Crew Challenge Title
Team Survives Three Rounds for Lucrative Title

BDI Racing Team, led by SPEED reporter Bob Dillner, won the second annual Media Pit Crew Challenge at Time Warner Cable Arena Wednesday afternoon. The team edged a group from the Charlotte Bobcats by two seconds to win the team competition.

Over 40 Charlotte-area and national media participated in the event, which followed the same format as the NASCAR Sprint Pit Crew Challenge that will be held Thursday night. In addition to the team competition, winners were also crowned in four individual skills competitions for quickest jack man, front tire changer, rear tire changer and gas man.

BDI Racing Team, which included Dillner as jack man, Dustin Archer as front tire changer, Bob Bachner as rear tire changer and Matt Kentfield as gas man, beat teams from WBTV (Charlotte NBC affiliate) and WSOC-TV (Charlotte ABC affiliate) in the preliminary rounds before besting the Bobcats in the finals. The Bobcats team defeated the Charlotte Observer and WCCB (Charlotte FOX affiliate) to reach the finals.

Other teams were fielded by the UNC-Charlotte Niner University Times, Sprint Vision and SPEED.

"I'll tell you what, for all of the skinned knees, hurt backs, tired legs and upset stomachs from all the hustling around during the competition, the taste of victory is sweet," said BDI Racing Director of Racing Operations and gasman for the competition Matt Kentfield. "Three rounds of doing jobs at the individual stations then collectively busting hump to a Chevy Cup Car and pushing it 40 yards to the finish line is not easy. Like I told some of the guys from Ryan Newman's Cup team that were there showing us the ropes - those pit crew guys are underpaid. It's tough work pitting these cars, that's for sure.

"But winning makes all the pain go away real quick. I'm extremely proud of the BDI Racing team. We've now won three straight times that we've competed at something, starting two weeks ago with Nick Stroupe's Pro Challenge win at Lanier, then last week's PASS South Super Late Model win with Zach Stroupe at Motor Mile, now this win for the guys. What a great couple of weeks for this team. Plus, we have to give a big thanks to "Slick" Nick Stroupe for being our secret weapon behind the weheel of that Chevy."
