Kyle Fowler Scores Best Career Super Late Model Finish at Lanier
Georgia Young Gun Impresses In ASA Southeast Event

Kyle Fowler grew up racing at Georgia's Lanier National Speedway in the Legends Car classes.  Those laps would prove to be very beneficial in his racing career, especially in the September 13th ASA Southeast Asphalt Tour Super Late Model event at Lanier.

After staring 14th in the 30-car James Garrison Memorial 100 field, Fowler rocketed to the front to post a second-place finish in his BDI Racing number-51 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, which earned him his career best Late Model finish in the ASA Southeast Tour.

“I thought I had a good shot at winning the thing actually,” said Fowler.  “We haven't been able to race much this year, and I just wanted to make this one count.  I only got to race about seven times, and it was definitely the best run this year and we're really happy with it.”

The 3/8-mile track at Lanier is unlike many other tracks in the Southeast, but it is one that Fowler is quite familiar with.  It showed early on, as Fowler was up to eighth by lap 32.  He continued to pick cars off one at a time and got to third by lap 77.  That is when Fowler hounded the back bumper of second-place Paul Kelley.  Fowler finally made the pass in the final five laps to grab the second spot.

The momentum of having a strong car in the final laps was exhilarating for Fowler.

“This is awesome, that's about the only word I can describe it as.  It was definitely a huge momentum boost,” added Fowler.  “At the beginning of the race, our main goal was to finish and to pass as many cars as we could, however many that was.  If we had a 10th-place car, we were going to run 10th - just set our own pace and our own line just going up through there.  I think we made it count tonight.”

Fowler, with backing from SPEED TV's Bob Dillner's BDI Racing program, also had the support of short track ace Mike Garvey at Lanier.

“Mr. Dillner is obviously a massive help to us, but we also had Mike Garvey helping us a little bit this race and that was nice being able to have someone with that much experience under his belt.  We've struggled with being able to be good at the end of the race before, and today we had a car that was best at the end of the run instead of the start.  That was a first for us; it was great.”

Kyle Fowler is looking forward to his next opportunity behind the wheel of a Late Model.  Right now that race is scheduled to be the World Crown 300 at Peach State Speedway on November 9th.  He hopes to be behind the wheel before that, so check out his website, www.kylefowler.net, in the coming weeks for more info.
