Meghan Dillner Closing In On Pro Challenge Goals
Fourth-Place Finish at Dillon Has 15-Year-Old Pumped Up for Playoffs

Meghan Dillner is one of several promising young rookies in the Pro Challenge Series in 2008. That fact is surprising due to the fact that she had not planned on competing in the national's leading scale-car racing series this year. Now, just eight races into her inaugural venture in Pro Challenge, she is closing in on some goals she had set for herself and the BDI Racing team. This past week, at Dillon Motor Speedway in South Carolina, the 15-year-old secured her second-straight fourth-place finish in Pro Challenge's North region of competition.

Dillner began the day as one of the fastest on the tight confines of the 3/8's mile track near the coast of South Carolina. She missed a beat in qualifying, but in the race Meghan wheeled her Chevrolet Silverado through the field to score a fourth-place finish at the end of the 35-lap event. In fact, she had battled with fellow rookie-of-the-year candidate, Stephen Bergh, and last year's region champ, Devon Haun, throughout three-quarters of the event for second through fourth.

“I was definitely happy with fourth because I think I raced as hard as I could,” said Dillner, who is supported by Racing Electronics.  “I drove the best I could to get third or second, but the lapped cars held me up a couple of times.  I was a little bit frustrated when I got out of my Silverado because I wanted to get into the top three.  If it wasn't for the lapped traffic, I think I could've raced

with those guys some more and finished even better, but I have things to learn as well. I was a little disappointed, but I really was happy with the good finish.”

The other aspect that made not qualifying well so important was the fact that the race went green-to-checker without a caution.

“It was definitely the longest I've ever raced under green,” said Meghan with a smile.  “A green-to-checker race will wear you out, but I know I need to drink lots of water and make sure I'm prepared for a hard race like that every time out there.”

Meghan is preparing herself for the Pro Challenge Playoff, where the top-25 are reset and seeded accordingly to where they finish in the top-25 in regular season points. Currently Dillner has eight starts, where everyone else ahead of her in the standings has nine or as many as 14. The goal she is attempting to accomplish, despite the late start to the season, is the Pro Challenge Rookie of the Year title.

“I'm definitely looking forward to chasing the Rookie of the Year.  Battling with Kyle Wilson, Stephen Bergh and others should be a blast.  The Rookie of the Year title has been my ultimate goal all season and it's something that I'd really like to chase down and get.  We'll have a good battle, and then we'll see who comes up on top in the end.”

Dillner's next race with be on Saturday, August 30th , when Pro Challenge is on the card with the PASS Super Late Models at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, NC.
