TEAM CHEVY COMMENTS: BOB DILLNER, OWNER, BDI RACING DEVELOPMENT TEAM
“Our country is in an economic crisis and we are all feeling the effects. The American car manafactuering business is a key component to the health of business in America . Companies like General Motors create thousands of jobs for people in our country and the outsourcing of products create even more economic stability. Chevrolet has been a big part of the sport I love so much since I was a kid, so it's time for us to stand up and help make government understand what they must do to stimulate this successful industry once again. I urge everyone to contact their Senator and/or Congress Representative to tell them you would appreciate if this package on the table was passed.”
RICK HENDRICK, OWNER, HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS AND CHAIRMAN, HENDRICK AUTOMOTIVE GROUP:
“I've been a Chevrolet dealer for over 30 years, and I have more confidence than ever in General Motors. Their leadership team, led by Rick Wagoner, is the best I've seen, and it's reflected in the quality of GM products. They have incredible people taking the company in the right direction, as do Ford and Chrysler, but we have to act now to help them. If we do, there's a bright future ahead of our domestic automotive industry.
“The Big Three are the backbone of our country. With nearly 7,000 people working at Hendrick Motorsports and Hendrick Automotive Group alone, I see their impact firsthand. The manufacturers play an irreplaceable role in the global economy and support millions of Main Street , American jobs. I feel a responsibility to those people and their families, and our leaders in Washington should, too.”
RICHARD CHILDRESS, PRESIDENT AND CEO, RICHARD CHILDRESS RACING:
“The automotive industry, in general, and General Motors, specifically, is an important component of the United State economy. It's something we have to have. So many jobs depend on it, both directly with the manufacturers and their many suppliers. The Big Three have also played an important role in NASCAR for decades. Chevrolet has been a key factor in the success of RCR from the beginning and I can't imagine racing anything but Chevrolets. Chevrolet is a big part of the excitement for millions of racing fans across the country and it is important for our representatives in Washington , D.C. , to ensure the continued financial viability of the U.S. auto industry.”
JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE'S IMPALA SS – HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS
“I have been with Chevrolet my entire racing career, and I honestly can't imagine what our sport would be like without them, let alone what our country would be without Chevrolet. I've raced their Silverado trucks in off-road and both the Monte Carlo and Impala SS in NASCAR. Our personal and business relationship has grown over the years and now includes Jimmie Johnson Kearny Mesa Chevrolet near where I grew up in Southern California , so it is far-reaching for me. I hate to see all these economic troubles and we are all affected by the current situation. We need to reach out. I hope everybody will contact their congregational representatives and ask for their help and support in this current economic crisis for Chevrolet; in fact, for all three U.S. automakers.”
JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DUPONT IMPALA SS – HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS
“In our sport, we are very dependent on our corporate supporters, and Chevrolet has played an extremely important part in my success in NASCAR. Over the years, our relationship has grown to become much more than just business, as a driver, partial team owner, and Chevy dealer, to a close personal level. That relationship reaches beyond me to people and family employees in a lot of ways. They have also supported the Jeff Gordon Foundation in many of our charity fund-raising events, and Chevrolet has been an unwavering supporter in enabling racing entertainment around the world for millions of fans. And now, in these fragile economic times, all of us suffer. There is no doubt that the challenges facing all three Detroit automakers affects each and every one of us. It's time for every one of us to act responsibly and step up and ask our congressman to support in the continued survival of the automakers and the future of this country, and I hope everyone asks their congressman for support in the continued survival of the automakers and the future of this country.”
DALE EARNHARDT JR., NO. 88 AMP ENERGY / NATIONAL GUARD IMPALA SS – HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS
“All I ever raced is Chevrolet. They've been with me throughout my entire career and have supported everything I have done. Now I want to do everything I can to support them. I have awesome fans and I hope they will reach out to our leaders in Washington to help Chevy and our other domestic carmakers. There is nothing more American than Chevrolet and we need to make sure it stays that way.”
JEFF BURTON, NO. 31 AT&T IMPALA SS - RICHARD CHILDRESS RACING
"The American automobile manufacturers have been such a huge part of what our country is all about and should be a source of American pride. At a time when the manufacturers need help, this is when someone should be willing to help them. It is my opinion that a huge part of the strength of our country has to do with the manufacturers. Having worldwide pride in our vehicles, having American pride in our vehicles. I just think if they need some help and they are trying to do the right thing, then we ought to try to find a way to help them."
CLINT BOWYER, NO. 07 JACK DANIEL'S IMPALA SS - RICHARD CHILDRESS RACING
"The American automakers are the backbone of this country. That's our transportation to and from work. We have to have new vehicles as the needs of our families change and grow to continue the strength of America as a whole. I think it is very important that we do whatever we need to do to help them through this tough time. It is very important to make sure that we take care of that."
KEVIN HARVICK, NO. 29 SHELL-PENNZOIL IMPALA SS - RICHARD CHILDRESS RACING
"I think it is important for not only the fans of our sport, but the general public as well to understand the magnitude of the situation. With the state of our economy in the form it is in right now, it as affected a lot of things. The U.S. automakers are affected as much as anybody. With the way it is going right now, they need a little bit of help and I think it is important for the public to go ahead and voice their opinion to make sure that help is there. Hopefully we can get them a little help to get them through a tough time and everybody will be better for it going forward. Nobody is asking for a freebie here. I think the bottom line it is something to bridge a gap in a tough time that a lot of people are looking for a way to make it through. The trickle-down affect of what would happen in this particular situation would be way beyond the automakers. There are a lot of people that make a lot of things for cars across the country that would be tremendously affected way, way down the line."
This current crisis knows no geographic boundaries. What happens to the U.S. auto industry also has an immediate impact on Wall Street and Your Street.
